Technology: The A3 comes packed with race-developed driving features, from quattro all-wheel-drive to servotronic steering. With an impressive array of in-car equipment, such as two-stage airbags, crash sensor systems and intelligent climate control, the A3 Sportback is another triumph of poise, power and technical prowess.
  • FSI (R). FSI uses direct injection technology to deliver outstanding performance, low CO2 emissions and improved fuel economy. Dependent on acceleration, FSI either distributes maximum power or can efficiently use less fuel and cut emissions.
  • quattro (R). The latest generation of Haldex inter-axle clutch converts torque from the engine with scarcely any loss of efficiency. In normal driving conditions, the clutch directs 85% of the torque to the front wheels, but in extreme circumstances it is able to transmit as much as 100% of the force to one of the two axles.
  • Servotronic steering. Servotronic (R) is speed-dependent power steering in which the amount of servo assist provided is dictated by road speed. It is direct, precise and responsive, designed to satisfy the active driver's needs at all speeds.
  • iPod compatibility. iPod compatibility enables you to control the Apple iPod conveniently like a CD changer. Switch between songs and playlists via the radio or the optional multifunction steering wheel of your Audi A3.
Safety: Audi believes that safety and performance are not mutually exclusive. The 2007 A3 includes a variety of safety features, including:
  • Brakes. Four wheel ABS with Electronic brake pressure distribution for rear brakes (EBD) along with brake assist for improved emergency braking provide the power to stop the Audi A3.
  • Impact protection. Reinforced high strength steel and aluminum crossmembers protect against impact. Side intrusion beams in side doors ensure equal distribution of forces in case of side impact
  • Front airbags. In the event of an accident, intelligent impact sensors, including an innovative front sensor, will detect the severity and nature of the impact and trigger the appropriate occupant protection systems.

  • 4.2 V8 Engine. At the heart of the 2007 S4 is an adrenaline-pumping 4.2 liter V8 delivering consummate power. This V8 is capable of producing 340 horsepower at 7,000 rpm (6800 rpm for automatic Tiptronic) and 302 lbs-ft. of torque at 3,500 rpm.
  • Servotronic steering. Servotronic (R) is speed-dependent power steering in which the amount of servo assist provided is dictated by road speed. It ensures optimal control at all speeds and degrees of turns and helps you hold the road at every angle that you turn the steering wheel.

RS 4
Performance: Mind-blowing performance. Incredible power. Total control. The high-reving 420 hp V8 4.2FSI (R) powerplant. A short-throw, six-speed manual with optimized synchromesh.   • 4.2 FSI V8 Engine. 420 hp. 317 lb-ft of torque. The V8 FSI engine responds without delay, catapulting you from a standstill to 60 mph/100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The new high-revving drive concept means the Audi RS 4 delivers its enormous power and outstanding performance to the road across an extraordinarily wide rev range. After another 11.8 seconds you touch 125 mph/200 km/h.
  • 6-Speed Manual Transmission. The 6-speed manual gearbox drives an integral self-locking center differential with an asymmetric, dynamic torque split between the front and rear axles. This device adapts automatically to changes in road grip, so that, if necessary, up to 100% of the available torque can be diverted to one of the axles.
  • Pedals. Alloy pedal set with rubber inserts for maximum grip and security.

  • quattro (R). This is the first Audi to use the asymmetric, dynamic torque split principle, which optimizes the road dynamics and emphasis the supreme character of the Audi RS 4. The advantages to a 40/60 split is more emphasis on power toward the rear of the vehicle for optimized cornering.
  • Electronic Stabilization Program. The ESP 8.0 electronic stabilization program has specific RS 4 settings and its own parameters for even sportier road dynamics. The program uses a combination of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), the Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), an innovative brake disc drying function and the traction control (ASR) system, to help make the RS 4 easier to control in handling situation close to the limit.
  • DRC. Dynamic Ride Control is only offered on RS models. DRC's hydraulic roll compensation varies the damping provided by each shock absorber. This means that cornering roll and pitching on braking or accelerating is reduced. The result is precise steering, even in fast maneuvers.

  • Brakes. Ventilated, cross-drilled brake discs of 14.4 inches at the front and 12.8 inches at the rear are specified for fade resistance and for optimum braking performance.
